Take back your land.  Take back your park.

The "Local Voices" Project

Although this is a national park that belongs to Americans in New York as much as those in California right next to the park, Jared Huffman and the ranchers that own him like to pretend this is their private land to do with as they wish.  In conjunction they proclaim that the locals all support what is happening in the park.  This is a lie.

Two things are happening right now.  People are becoming aware of the situation and those who were already aware are getting brave (part of the success of the ranching propaganda has been through intimidating the opposition into silence)..

Add your voice to the opposition! Record a short video with your smart phone and send it in to be included in the final local voices project. Include the following.

The Basics

  • Introduce yourself.  Simply say your name
  • State the town you live in.
  • Say, "I'm a local and my voice matters" or "I don't support ranching in the seashore," or "Jared Huffman does not represent me." or...
  • Add your own message, but keep it short.
Here's an example of all the elements combined:
"Hi, my name is John Doe, I live in Santa Rosa. I'm a local and ny voice matters. Protect wildlife, end ranching now. "
Picture
This West Marin resident sent in a great example. No need to be fancy, just record a selfie video!

Filming Tips

Don't overcomplicate it or get stressed, adding your voice is the most important thing, but here's a guide for filming if interested in tips:
  • Hold the camera as steady as possible or use a mount.
  • The setting should be quiet and your voice should be loud and clear.
  • Hold the phone horizontally (landscape style) to match standard filmmaking.
  • Make sure you/your face is well lit.
  • Keep it short and sweet!
When your video is ready send it in and fill out the form below.  Since this is a very short video you should be able to email it without trouble.  You can also send it via text message or use a Dropbox link..  Email to [email protected]
If you choose to text or use Dropbox please fill out the form below and I will respond to you with a link or number to upload the file.  You may also use the form to submit any questions.

What else can you do?

Watch the film.
Arm yourself with knowledge. When you are done watching the film arm yourself against the propaganda by perusing this site and learning the truth behind the misconceptions.

What else can you do? Actually, you tell me!
Many people ask, "What can be done? How can I help?"  In most cases I'm simply going to return the question, "What CAN you do?" Deep down you already know what your commitment level is, what you're willing to do, and what you are capable of, so take some time to think on that.  Imagine that a list of tasks was set in front of you...you probably already know which ones your particular skill set meshes with and which you would not want to do.  Are you a writer? A researcher? An artist? Do you have money to spare?  Do you already know how much time you are willing to dedicate to the cause?
What NOT to do
Please don't send in suggestions of what "might help" or "what should be done."  Like myself, most people working on this project are volunteering their time and are already spread thin. Giving us a to do list isn't helpful. If, on the other hand, you have an idea and you take it on yourself to pursue that idea, then report back with solid results, THAT is both helpful and encouraging.
