After taking one guided tour of Point Reyes with author, ecologist, and paleontologist, Laura Cunningham, I began to pay more attention to the plants surrounding me wherever I went. And as summer settled in I really started thinking of the golden fields of dry, flammable plants that seemed to surround me. In this video I take a walk through the hills of Pinole, California and attempt to identify plants with Laura's help. The ratio of invasives to natives was eye opening, but the consequences that come with a landscape dominated by non natives are issues I suspect many of us haven't considered.
